Elevator Malfunction at NYC Supertall Causes Vibration, Injures 3

A “huge vibration” was felt throughout the building and three workers suffered minor injuries as a result of an elevator malfunction on March 21 at the 1,401-ft-tall supertall office tower One Vanderbilt next to Grand Central Terminal in Manhattan, NY, WABC is among outlets to report. Workers were performing a software update on One Vanderbilt’s observation deck elevator, Ascent, when the unit dropped approximately three stories to the 93rd floor. At that point, the vibration was felt. The NYC Department of Buildings (DoB) said the tower was undamaged and there is no danger to its occupants or people nearby. DoB is continuing its investigation.
