Officials with Boston-based developer Drew Co., architect Gensler and general contractors Skanska and SG Contracting celebrated the official topping-out of the 42-story, 1.25 million-ft2 Signia by Hilton Atlanta on March 28, property owner Georgia World Congress Center Authority (GWCCA) announced. Scheduled for opening in January 2024, Signia by Hilton Atlanta will be served by a KONE vertical-transportation (VT) system that includes 16 elevators and six escalators. Built on the repurposed foundation of the Georgia Dome, the property is the largest downtown ground-up hotel development project in 40 years and the first newly built Signia by Hilton. Connecting to the Georgia World Congress Center, it will boast more than 100,000-ft2 of meeting space (including the largest hotel ballroom in Georgia), an outdoor event deck, three boardrooms and a vast array of amenities. “I applaud the efforts of GWCCA, as well as our partners at Hilton, Drew, Gensler, SG Contracting and Skanska for this incredible undertaking that has already transformed the skyline of downtown Atlanta,” GWCCA Executive Director Frank Poe said.
