Kentish Town Tube station in north London will close this summer for “vital” escalator replacements, Time Out is among outlets to report. Beginning June 26, the station’s 26-year-old escalators will be replaced with state-of-the-art escalators like those on the Elizabeth Line. The circa-1997 escalators are unreliable, often causing unplanned station closures. Their replacements are expected to last for up to 40 years. Work, which also includes deep cleaning and touch-ups to paint, tiles and signage, is expected to take one year. The station will remain closed until it is completed, due to safety considerations and space constraints.
