“Landmark” Toronto Strip Club To Be Replaced With Condo Tower

Development plans that would level half of a Toronto block, including a circa-1950 strip club, to build a 514-unit condominium tower were recently filed, blogTo reports. The proposal from developer Concord is planned for an assembly of five properties, which would spell the end for The Brass Rail, a popular holdover from the city’s long-gone adult entertainment scene, and several other businesses on Yonge and Hayden streets. Plans call for the demolition of the entire lot; however, the primary west façade of the Brass Rail is planned to be retained and incorporated into the base of the new tower. Designed by architects Dialog, the mixed-use tower would be 216.5-m tall with 414 m2 of retail space on the ground floor and 35,545 m2 of residential space. The proposal may face pushback, as all properties on the site have belonged to the city’s Heritage Register since 2016 and are located within the under-appeal Historic Yonge Street Heritage Conservation District.
