Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) recently announced the City of Vilnius, Lithuania, has issued a building permit for Business Stadium Central, designed by ZHA for Lithuanian developer Hanner and destined to become an “architectural highlight” of the city, according to the architecture firm. With curved facades and cantilevered balconies facing the historic Gediminas Castle Tower in the city center, the 24,000-m2 development will consist of two eight- and nine-story towers connected by a skybridge at the fifth level. Elevators will carry people to the upper floors housing public swimming pools, saunas, steam rooms and sundecks overlooking Old Town. Sustainable building materials and systems will be used throughout, and digital design processes promise to minimize the amount of materials required. Eva Danovska served as mechanical, electrical and plumbing consultant.
