Signatories of the World Elevator & Escalator Federation (WEEF) met on July 6 during the World Elevator & Escalator Expo at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai to further accelerate the process of cooperation among parties and share priorities of the industry sector. A top priority remains consolidation of the global technical harmonization process based on International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standards, as well as their uniform adoption by countries worldwide. WEEF members vowed to continue to collaborate and collect information on the number of installations and incidents in each region. Safety continues to be a top priority, and in-depth seminars on quality are forthcoming. Representatives of the European Commission, China regulatory authorities, the European Committee for Standardization and ISO attended the meeting, confirming a “synergistic and highly cooperative relationship,” according to WEEF. Links between WEEF and the International Elevator & Escalator Symposium and the Global Elevator Safety Forum remain strong, and ELEVATOR WORLD has been confirmed as the main partner for external WEEF communications.
