Four years after work began, Mumbai’s first foot overbridge (FOB) with escalators for entry and exit was inaugurated by Guardian Minister Deepak Kesarkar at Dr BA Road in Sion, Mumbai, India, on July 15, Mumbai Live is among outlets to report. Aimed at enhancing accessibility and reducing accidents, it is the first FOB in Mumbai outfitted with such escalators. Municipal Corp. of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) awarded the contract for the FOB between the Sion flyover and Sion Hospital in January 2019, with the project slated for completion in 15 months. MCGM said factors including the COVID-19 pandemic, the shifting of underground utilities and a change in construction methodology resulted in delays that led to the approximate cost more than doubling. The 44.04-m-long FOB is expected to see daily footfall of up to 8,000.
