A recent report from Fagen Wasanni Technologies details the role of Internet of Things (IoT) technology in the elevator industry in the Middle East and Africa. The adoption of this technology is still in its early phases in this part of the world, but benefits are already being seen in skyscrapers and urban centers, which rely heavily on elevators. IoT offers solutions to common issues such as frequent breakdowns, long waiting times and excessive energy consumption through predictive maintenance, destination control and smart energy-management systems. Several companies are levering IoT in the region, including Schindler. The OEM has partnered with Chinese multinational technology corporation Huawai to implement IoT in its elevators in the Middle East. This partnership aims to improve the efficiency, reliability and safety of Schindler elevators.
