Otis has been selected to provide 46 elevators and escalators for an expansion of Shenzhen Metro Line 5 in China, Otis President, Chair and CEO Judy Marks said during an earnings call on April 24. The vertical-transportation (VT) units will be installed at three stations that connect to the city’s Grand Theater where passengers can transfer to two other metro lines. Forming an arc around central Shenzhen, Metro Line 5 runs west to east from Chiwan to Huangbeiling and has quickly grown since opening in 2011. In 2021, it regularly carried more than 1 million passengers each day. The latest 2.88-m expansion between Huangbeiling and the Grand Theater had been slated for completion in 2025.
