Public Review Process for NYC’s “City of Yes for Housing Opportunity” Proposal Underway

NYC Mayor Eric Adams kicked off the public review process on April 29 for the “City of Yes for Housing Opportunity” proposal, which the NYC Department of City Planning estimates could create up to 108,850 new homes in the next 15 years and address a severe housing shortage, New York YIMBY was among outlets to report. The proposal would facilitate converting non-residential buildings to housing, lifting residential parking mandates and enabling transit-oriented development, among other measures. Ahead of a City Planning Commission hearing this fall and vote by the end of the year, the proposal is being reviewed by community boards, borough presidents and borough boards. Deputy Mayor for Housing, Economic Development and Workforce Maria Torres-Springer described the proposal as “a bold plan to create the most pro-housing changes in the history of our zoning code.”
