The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) on May 3 hosted Elevator Industry Day in Seoul to present updated elevator design specifications that incorporate South Korean code, opening the door to allow local manufacturers to supply products for future projects, Defense Visual Information Distribution Service (DVIDS) reports. In announcing the move, DVIDS observed that approximately 1,000 elevators serve U.S. military installations in South Korea, and that USCE — Far East District presented the changes to more than 100 in-person and virtual attendees during Elevator Industry Day. The event was jointly hosted by the Korean Lift Association and the Korean Elevator Safety Agency. Thanking experts from across the Republic of Korea (ROC) and the U.S. for their diligent efforts, District Commander Col. Heather Levy said receiving approval to integrate South Korean elevators into USACE projects “marks a significant milestone and is a true win for the ROK-U.S. alliance.”
