KONE announced on June 6 it has been selected to provide a suite of vertical-transportation (VT) solutions for the modernization of the 1960s, 101-m-tall Thirty High skyscraper (formerly Portland House) in Central London. Developer Landsec is handling the refurbishment, which will be “net zero in both construction and operation while reimagining an iconic landmark into a modern office-led, mixed-use development.” Once modernized, the building is set to have an extended rooftop to the 30th floor with panoramic views over London. This will be enabled by KONE’s machine-room-less (MRL) elevator for high-rise buildings. The order includes 15 KONE MonoSpace® 700 MRL elevators, of which 12 will be dedicated to passengers, two to firefighters and one for service purposes. It is estimated that KONE VT equipment will move approximately 2,000 passengers within Thirty High each day. Buckley Gray Yeoman is project architect and McLaren Construction Ltd. is general contractor.
