TSBC Addresses Elevator Questions During Annual Public Meeting

Technical Safety BC (TSBC), an independent, self-funded organization that oversees the safe installation and operation of technical systems in the Canadian province of British Columbia, addressed questions from the elevator community during its annual public meeting, Core Connections 2024, on May 23. Among issues raised were the status of adopting B-44 2019 codes, simplifying the renewal process for Class C and A elevating-devices mechanics, the possibility of auto-adopting continuing education (CE) programs for elevating devices approved by other provinces, inspection-time bookings and the reason for excluding a periodic-inspection component from the adoption of B44-19. While TCBC failed to directly answer several questions, it provided some useful information for elevator-industry professionals, including that CE courses not approved by TSBC will not be accepted for renewal. TSBC President Phil Gothe said inspection bookings have been reduced from an average of 10 days to three days, although “there are some travel and time challenges associated with remote locations and unplanned inspection requests.”
