U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer on August 1 announced a new US$161,702 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) that will help the Fire Department in Englewood, New Jersey, take three critical rescue courses: elevator rescue, rope rescue and man versus machine rescue. Gottheimer said the latest grant is part of more than US$4 million in federal grant funding he has helped secure for north New Jersey since 2018. “In a hustling and bustling city like Englewood, there are hundreds of elevators and industrial machines that have a risk of breaking down,” Gottheimer observed. Training sessions designed to help firefighters better respond to and rescue residents from elevators and industrial machines will be hosted by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
