One Za’abeel, a mixed-use tower complex in Dubai, U.A.E., distinguished by having the longest cantilevered section in the world, has been named the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) 2024 Best Tall Building (BTB) for the Middle East and Africa. Designed by Japanese firm Nikken Sekkei, the complex includes 68- and 59-story towers served by an Otis vertical-transportation (VT) system. In all, the VT system at One Za’abeel includes five double-deck and 27 single-deck Otis SkyRise® elevators paired with the Otis Compass® destination-dispatch system, as well as six escalators. In total, 184 Compass 360 capacitive touchscreens guide passengers to the right elevators throughout the massive, 398,364-ft2 development. Otis Gulf Managing Director Mohammed Al Quaisi previously told ELEVATOR WORLD the ingenuity of the complex, including its Otis VT, have made it the “talk of the town.” A complete list of winners in all categories, including Dubai’s Al Wasl Plaza built for Expo 2020 Dubai, can be found here.
