Otis announced on October 8 it completed a comprehensive, 10-unit elevator modernization at University Hospital Vienna — the largest hospital in Austria — with which Otis has had a relationship for more than 50 years. The upgrade resulted in reducing energy consumption by 40% and easing hospital operations through a customized destination-dispatch system integrated with the building access system. The system, installed by Otis in 1973, includes nine passenger and bed elevators and a fire department elevator. It has been maintained from the beginning by Otis technicians on-site 24/7. Following replacement of the control systems in the 1990s, the latest modernization included upgrading the controls to Gen2® technology, including a ReGen® drive. Otis also updated the system with the CompassPlus® destination-selection system and EMS PanoramaTM that provides complete transparency and real-time control. The Otis ONETM Internet of Things solution, meanwhile, enables digital emergency calls and fast fault detection.
