Otis’ New Equipment team enabled the integration of Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs), or robots, with seven of 28 Otis elevators serving the new Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH) in Smethwick near Birmingham, U.K., Otis announced on LinkedIn. The technology allows the AGVs to carry supplies such as pharmaceuticals, linens, clinical waste and operating theater equipment from the MMUH warehouse to the hospital wards, freeing up staff to spend more time with patients. Designed by HKS, Cagni Williams and Sonnemann Toon Architects, the 11-story, 700-bed acute MMUH opened in October 2024. “We are delighted to help facilitate this groundbreaking solution in the vital healthcare sector,” Otis stated.
