Start Elevator’s O’Shea Discusses 2025 Business Drivers, Challenges

Jack O’Shea, owner and president of Bronx, NY-based Start Elevator, recently discussed with ELEVATOR WORLD what’s driving business and creating challenges for his company in 2025. With a roughly equal footprint across all five NYC boroughs and a wide array of customers, Start is optimistic about falling interest rates and new codes that will require compliance by the end of 2026, O’Shea said. One of the main challenges of doing business in NYC now, he said, is ensuring Start keeps proper inventory for its customers and that orders come in on time, which requires careful navigation of the supply chain. While the vast majority of Start’s customers are now in compliance with the new door lock monitoring requirement, elevator systems with single-plunger brakes will need to be modified to dual plunger or have a new rope gripper installed by January 1, 2027, to comply with code. This, O’Shea said, promises to drive business for Start throughout the year and beyond.
