The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency announced that starting the week of February 17 the south escalator at the Castro Muni Station will be out of service for two and a half weeks, The Bay Area Reporter reports. The agency stated that the escalator closure will be part of the concrete walkway replacement for the installation of the new four-stop elevator being installed at the Castro Station that will temporarily block the south escalator. First proposed in 2016, the new elevator will increase accessibility to the station, as the current elevator is across the street from its main entrance. The agency stated that people can access the escalator on the north side to access to the station during the closure.
