Dear Readers of Elevator World Turkey,
COVID-19, which showed up last year and has been prevalent now for more than one year, seems likely to affect our lives for a long time. After getting short-term results thanks to the measures taken and the closings at the first step, the number of cases and deaths hit their peak in the summer and autumn months. Now, everyone is struggling to survive economically, as well as from the pandemic. Unfortunately, our country is one of the countries that gives less support to compa-nies and citizens during this period. Closings bring bankruptcies and unemployment as there is a lack of support. We have no choice but to wait for normalizing as vaccination rate increases.
Industrial activities have had to be postponed for the second or third time, as it is not clear how long the pandemic will continue. Recently, ISEE, which will be held in India, and Ascen.tec, which will be held in Greece, have been put back. You may track developments through our events calendar.
We rarely focus on regional issues in Elevator World Turkey. Pre-viously, one of our issues focused on the elevator industry in Konya. In our March-April issue, we focus on İstanbul, which is an ancient city, the apple of our country’s eye and the locomotive of our industry and commerce. Based on the data obtained from the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM), US$66.7 billion of products have been exported to 238 countries and regions by the companies located in İstanbul. This figure is greater than the economies of many countries. Istanbul is still the leader in the export of elevators, escalators and their components. In Istanbul, there are 536 elevator and escalator companies registered in Turkish Standards Institute and approximately 30 % of them are also component manufacturers. In this issue, you will find articles about Istanbul written by Şevket Şarlıoğlu from Istanbul Provincial Directorate of Industry, İsmail Yıldırım and Fulya Ayyıldız. Additional-ly, in this issue, you will find many articles and news items including the articles on Pera Palace, which has the first electric elevator of Turkey; Istanbul Finance Center, which is the biggest actual project; and metro projects.
Recently, an interesting announcement was published on Public Disclosure Platform (KAP). With the statement, Emlak Konut GYO announced they established a company named “Emlak Konut Asansör Sistemleri Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş.” There is not too much information about this new company that is followed up by the industry. We will follow the developments closely.
“Elevator Sector Report 2020,” which includes information, data and considerations about Elevator and Escalator Industry on an annual basis, has been published by the Ministry of Industry and Technology. You may read the details of the report in this issue.
I hope the wheels will get into motion both in terms of our econ-omy and in the elevator and escalator industry with the arrival of spring.
