This Product Spotlight looks at an innovative elevator entrance and hoistway protection system.
submitted by SafeRise
SafeRise, LLC introduced the Temporary Elevator Entrance and Hoistway Protection System to the U.S. market in 2022 after designing extensive prototypes and collaborating with major contractors and elevator companies. The system works to improve safety and efficiency in construction projects.
SafeRise’s 8-ft tall robust steel tube and steel mesh system offers a range of features that distinguish it from traditional wood and netting site-built solutions. Conventional site-built barricades often introduce safety risks, require constant maintenance and lead to disputes between general contractors (GCs) and elevator constructors. Worker efficiency is compromised due to the shortcomings of these barricades, including damaged netting, barricade movement and exposure to fall hazards. SafeRise addresses these issues with its modular system, providing a secure fit without the need for top support.
Key Safety Measures and a Commitment to Safety Standards
The fully open, multi-car hoistways can be efficiently covered using SafeRise’s gates and modular fixed panels, creating comprehensive protection for hoistways of any width. The system features keyed lock access with an interior quick-release mechanism, preventing unauthorized entry and reducing the risk of stacked work, worker falls and material spills. A secondary handrail inside the outer gate door ensures workers can safely tie-off to the safety line before entering the hoistway.
SafeRise, LLC’s barricade system not only meets the specific needs of elevator installers and general contractors but also reflects a commitment to elevating safety standards in construction projects. The system exceeds Occupational Safety and Health Administration and American National Standards Institute standards and has received approval from the New York City Department of Buildings for use in NYC.
With nationwide availability, SafeRise aspires to be the national supplier of choice for rentable elevator hoistway protection with plans to expand into Canada in 2024. The company is proud to have received an endorsement from Frank J. Christensen, general president of the International Union of Elevator Constructors (IUEC). Christensen acknowledges the system’s efficacy, stating,
“After evaluating the SafeRise Temporary Elevator Entrance and Hoistway Protection System, the IUEC is pleased to endorse its immediate use on all elevator projects. I believe this protection will make the entire construction industry safer for all workers while working in or around elevator hoistways.”
