145 Units to New BIA Terminal

KONE has been selected to supply 145 units to the new passenger terminal being built at Bahrain International Airport (BIA), TradeArabia reported. The order consists of 85 elevators, 40 escalators and 20 moving walks, all equipped with the E-Link remote-monitoring system. The new terminal is part of an effort by the Ministry of Transportation & Telecommunication to “develop the BIA into one of the most modern and futuristic airport buildings in the world.” Expected to be complete by 2020, the expansion will bring BIA’s annual passenger capacity from approximately nine million to 14 million.

128 Units for Tripla in Helsinki

KONE has been hired to provide 128 elevators, escalators and moving walks to Tripla, a mixed-use development spanning three city blocks at the Pasila railway station in Helsinki. The order consists of 58 MonoSpace® 700, nine MonoSpace 500, seven TranSysTM and one MotalaTM 2000 elevators; 14 TravelMasterTM 140 and 32 TravelMaster 110 escalators; and seven TravelMaster moving walks. Serving as a new transportation hub for Helsinki, Tripla will include a mall, parking garage, approximately 400 apartments, a hotel, an expanded railway station and 50,000 m2 of office space. Construction company and developer YIT called it a new “landmark project in Finland.” The mall, railway station and parking garage are scheduled for delivery in 2019, with the remainder of the project for 2022. Architects are Soini & Horto Ltd. and Brunow & Maunula Ltd. working with a concept by the Dutch Office for Metropolitan Architecture. Construction company YIT is the developer.
