Your author (SG) sits down with Dennis Lindeboom (DL), one of the “faces of the industry,” for a quick “on-the-run” conversation at a recent event.
Dennis Lindeboom is the international account manager at Liftinstituut. He obtained his Bachelor of Business Administration from the Henley School of Business, along with a Master of Business Sciences from Radboud University. He has held various roles for companies such as RPC Group; Hörmann; Duco Ventilation & Sun Control; Top Trade Matching; and Claassen, Moolenbeek & Partners. He joined Liftinstituut in 2009.
SG: Wine or beer? Coffee or tea?
DL: Beer (Weizen) and Cappucino.
SG: How would you describe your job in one sentence?
DL: Global and diversified
SG: What has been your personal highlight so far in business — or what do you want it to be?
DL: On one hand, a number of very large orders we received, and on the other, some remarkably smaller ones, which I consider to be unique. And I remember that I qualified as one of the 16 faces of the elevator world according to the organization behind the biggest lift fair in the world: interlift!
SG: What is currently bothering you most in the industry?
DL: Extreme unreliability, which has nothing to do with our industry, but more common sense in some parts of the world than in others across all industries.
SG: In light of the skills shortage, do you have job openings? What is missing?
DL: Liftinstituut is always looking for skilled certification specialists. Liftinstituut’s product certification team made a true transition from purely Dutch to very international. Nowadays, Liftinstituut has many other nationalities among its team (engineering and marketing/sales) members, including Argentina, Italy, Lithuania, Philippines, Syria and Türkiye. This is something I very much enjoy and see as right as we are acting in a truly global environment. Personally, I would very much appreciate having a German engineer on the team, as well.
SG: What innovation would you most like to be able to use first thing tomorrow morning?
DL: Within our elevator industry I personally would love to ride new innovations like MULTI (by TK Elevator) and Hyprlift myself in the future! However, other manufacturers seem to be developing game-changing technology, too, which I would love to experience myself. Outside our industry, I would love to move myself around in a self-driving car for some time (and evaluate). And if they ever come up with space rides at a budget price, I would definitely be interested.
SG: Give me your best elevator pitch in 15 s — what makes you unique?
DL: That is the hardest question for a modest (laughing…) person like myself. Unique is hard to say, as it means one of a kind, if I am not mistaken. Let me describe myself as a cheerful, reliable, empathetic and a very customer-driven world citizen!
SG: Finally: what drink would you recommend for starting a conversation with you?
DL: Let’s not get back to the Weizen beer again in that case. I would then go for an Aperol Spritz, which I learned to drink many years ago while being at a sunny terrace in Salzburg, Austria, together with my wife. We were wondering about that great-looking orange drink that some people around us were consuming. Non-alcoholic, I go with a Coke Zero or a Pepsi Max.
