Final preparations for the first edition of The Elevator Show (TES) Dubai are underway as we go to print. To be held on September 16-18 at the Dubai World Trade Centre, TES is years in the making, having been in the works since before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Fortunately, interest in the trade show has only grown over time, and we are pleased to be welcoming more than 100 exhibitors from over 14 countries throughout the Middle East, Europe, Asia and North America. The focus of the inaugural edition of the show is components, and an array of suppliers — from global OEMs to family-owned companies — plan to showcase their products. In addition, several major European VT associations representing hundreds of small to medium-sized elevator enterprises plan to set up booths to take full advantage of all the networking opportunities. The lion’s share of exhibitors — more than 25 — hail from China, followed by Türkiye with 20, Italy with 14 and the U.A.E. with 12. Exhibitors from Belgium, Canada, Germany, India, Lichtenstein, Lithuania, South Korea, Switzerland, the U.K. and the U.S. will also be in attendance. For a full event preview, read Going Big in Dubai by Kaija Wilkinson.
Also in this issue, we welcome two new writers from the Middle East. Zeidan Loutfi, regional director for Al Arabia for Elevators and Moving Systems, writes The Evolution and Future of Special-Operation Lifts in Modern Facilities. The article, which is part of our focus topic on Special Operation Lifts, looks at the elevator’s place in modern times and future trends. Ehtesham Ahmed, director, Sales & Marketing, Middle East, Türkiye and Commonwealth of Independent States for Otis, looks at major projects and what’s driving them in Transformative Construction Boom in KSA and U.A.E. We welcome them both to our pages.
We also report on several major industry events in this issue:
- First Elevex Konya Exhibition a Success with Visitor Numbers Exceeding Expectations. Konya’s first elevator and escalator fair, organized by Vizyon Sektörel Fuarcılık, sees intense visitor participation.
- The Economy of Kazakhstan and the Second Lift Expo Kazakhstan. The lift and escalator fair of developing Kazakhstan was held in Almaty on April 3-5.
- CTBUH Europe 2024 Istanbul. The conference took place on April 18 at the Ziraat Towers in the Istanbul Financial Center.
Along with so much more incredible reading in this issue, we present you with some incredible pictures, as well. The winning photos from the 12th annual Photo Contest gives us a view of our industry from the cameras of those who work daily on lifts and escalators. Enjoy, and we’ll see you at TES!
