Sustainability Emphasized at 46th Building Fair – Turkeybuild Istanbul

The 46th Building Fair – Turkeybuild Istanbul, organized by ICA Events, took place at the TÜYAP Fair and Congress Center on April 17-20.

The Building Fair – Turkeybuild Istanbul, one of the five largest construction fairs in the world and playing a significant role in establishing new collaborations, was organized with a target business volume of EUR700 million, serving as the region’s strongest collaboration platform. On the first day of the fair, emphasis was placed on the digitalization in the sector. On April 17, the first day of the fair, unusual ideas and innovative materials regarding the construction sector were brought to the agenda with the theme “Outside the Box.” In the session titled “Material Revolution in Construction: Creative Revolutions and Innovative Products,” Kenan Aracı, vice president of the Board of Directors of Turkey Association of Turkish Building Material Producers (IMSAD), stated “the process of change in construction has accelerated. It is effective in production, as well as all other processes. Innovation efforts are being made on the products side, creating added value for companies. Being sustainable plays an essential role in this process. Digitalization is vital, too. It minimizes errors and shortens business processes.” Yiğit Yakar, president of the Board of Directors of Scaffold and Formwork Industrialists Association (İKSD), provided examples of digitalization and constructive innovation practices, stating “our sector is one that heavily exports to the EU. During the transition period until January 1, 2026, our association’s goal is to examine the green deal and the carbon border adjustment mechanism. It is a very challenging process, but it should be turned into an opportunity. Companies may need to establish new departments within their organizations. We aim to serve as a bridge between association members, industry stakeholders and export unions, facilitating information flow.” On the second day of the fair, the theme “Design, Derive, Produce with Artificial Intelligence!” focused on the evolution of design, innovations in technology and AI. Topics such as 3D modeling, smart materials and the transformation in design processes, the revolution in material technologies and the creative potential of smart buildings, advanced solutions in the sector and sustainable architecture supported by artificial intelligence were discussed. Under the moderation of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sabri Gökmen, Head of the Department of Architecture at Kadir Has University, the session titled “Creative Potential of Smart Buildings: AI-supported Architecture” brought up the creative potential of smart buildings and AI-supported sustainable architecture.
