The first installation of an Otis Smart Cab since its debut at China International Import Expo 2023 transports visitors to the art of outer space. The Shanghai Museum of Art Pudong (MAP) is the home of a unique art exhibit that showcases the Smart Cab’s technological abilities. In collaboration with Chinese modern artist Xu Bing, Otis modernized two elevators at the MAP and installed the Smart Cab, which features a passenger-centric artistic experience.
In a mission to promote a collective, sustainable future, Bing’s exhibit puts visitors into a virtual world created from his art where they are transported to the wonders of outer space. Designed in space from the artist’s extraordinary SCA-1 art satellite, which was launched into orbit from China in February 2024, the exhibit uses the Smart Cab’s digital screens to make passengers feel as though they’ve taken an elevator to space. Sally Loh, president, Otis China said:
“In our latest joint project, we are reimagining the elevator space to deliver a holistic experience that transports MAP visitors not just to the next floor, but also into a more connected future. Aligning with China’s push for high-quality development and urban renewal, real estate leaders like Lujiazui Group are taking advantage of advances in elevator design and technology to advance contemporary life. Modernizing elevator equipment creates value for communities and makes the urban environment safer, more reliable and more sustainable for all.”
