Otis tells ELEVATOR WORLD it has been selected by construction services company EllisDon Construction to provide 15 elevators for The United Building at 481 University Avenue in downtown Toronto. Developed by Davpart Inc. with B+H Architects as design consultant, the 55-story, 79,942-m² mixed-use development includes preservation of the historic nine-story, former head office of publisher Maclean Hunter. The Toronto Sun previously reported that Davpart President and CEO David Hofstedter described the structure as having “many bold design influences, from Beaux Arts to Modern Classical.” Otis units will include five SkyRise® and six Gen2® elevators to serve 748 condos of various sizes, ground-level retail and 182,457 ft2 of commercial office space in what will be, upon completion, the tallest heritage retention development in North America.
