32 New Elevators to be Installed in Maldives Towers

Managing Director of the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) of the Maldives Fazul Rasheed announced that two elevators will be installed in each tower of the Hiyaa flats in Hulhumalé, one of which can accommodate stretchers and one with a capacity of 14 people, The Edition reports. The installation will include 32 new elevators and has an estimated cost of MVR 278 million (US$18 million), said Rasheed in response to questions raised by members of the Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee. There are approximately 50,000 residents of the Hiyaa towers, many of whom have complained about the difficulty of using the elevators. Rasheed also said that the installation project is currently underway.
