A 58-story tower containing 1,285 apartments, retail, childcare and nursing-home facilities is starting to rise on a manmade island as part of the Tsukishima 3 Chome North District Town Redevelopment project in Tokyo, Japan Property Central reports. The prime site on Monja Street was once home to charming row houses, but they are increasingly giving way to high rises that are better equipped to handle natural disasters and other emergencies. The approximately US$600-million tower project is being developed by Sumitomo Realty & Development, Tokyo Tatemono, Daiwa House and Funenkousha. Completion is anticipated in roughly 2026.
