American Startup Aims to Revolutionize Moving Walks

Brothers John and Matine Yuksel, both members of the A17 Escalator & Moving Walk Committee and Accelerating Walk Task Force, are bringing their father’s 48-year-old idea to life with Beltways®, a venture-backed American OEM developing patented modular accelerating walkways, outlets including LINK NKY reported in September. Beltways was founded in 2020 in Silicon Valley and later moved to Hebron, Kentucky, close to the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Airport (CVG), to be closer to suppliers, have access to affordable factory space, and deploy America’s first accelerating walkway sometime in 2025. Unlike conventional moving walkways, Beltways’ accelerating walkway is modular and pit-less, allowing their systems to be installed module-by-module above ground level, saving time and manpower. Managed by an advanced control system, each module can be set to a different speed, with a design that “allows the pedestrian to experience gradual and imperceptible changes in speed.” Pedestrians enter at a comfortable speed, accelerate up to 10 times faster than conventional systems, and decelerate to a safe exit, said the brothers.
