One Dutch and two British architecture firms have halted all projects in Russia over the war in Ukraine, various news outlets report. On February 28, The Architect’s Newspaper reported that Rotterdam, Netherlands-headquartered MVRDV released a statement denouncing Russian President Vladimir Putin’s “unprovoked attack on Ukraine” and said it has stopped work on all six projects — including the mixed-use RED7 residential project in central Moscow — underway in Russia. MVRDV also said its Ukraine projects have been “put on hold by the atrocities.” The source said it believes MVRDV is the first major European architectural firm to release such a statement. On March 3, dezeen reported that British firms David Chipperfield Architects and Zaha Hadid Architects followed suit a day after MVRDV’s announcement. “We condemn the actions of Putin and the Russian government and stand in solidarity with Ukraine and its people,” David Chipperfield Architects, which has offices in London, Berlin, Milan and Shanghai, said.
