Bids Sought For Upgrading Chennai FOB’s Non-Functioning VT

The State Highways Department in Chennai, India, is inviting bids for replacing non-functioning vertical transportation (VT) equipment — escalators — and adding elevators to both sides of the foot over bridges (FOBs) near the Madras Export Processing Zone MEPZ), DT Next reports. A department official said a ramp on the MEPZ side of the FOB will be dismantled and replaced by a lift. The non-functioning escalators will be completely dismantled and replaced by heavy-duty units with a five-year warranty and maintenance included. Coming at the request of MEPZ management, the effort is expected to take up to four months at a cost of roughly US$456,700. The effort is aimed at improving pedestrian safety and convenience.
