All four escalators connecting the three floors of the Cutty Sark Docklands Light Railway (DLR) station in south-east London have been broken for the past two months, sparking anger among public officials and frustration among users, The Standard is among outlets to report. Transport for London (TfL) maintains the station’s vertical-transportation equipment, which also includes one small lift. TfL has apologized for the situation and said it is working to fix the escalators “as soon as possible.” Meanwhile, passengers who choose to not wait for the lift must climb 121 stairs at the station, which Labour Councilor for Greenwich Creekside Calum O’Byrne describes as “the gateway to one of London’s four World Heritage sites” — Maritime Greenwich, a popular tourist attraction. O’Byrne said all four escalators are expected to be back in operation by spring 2025, but “we’re seeking clarity from TfL on exactly what that means.”
