CECA Scholarship Renamed to Honor Past Member Guderian

Guderian

The Canadian Elevator Contractors Association (CECA) Board of Directors (BoD) decided at its recent meeting to rename one of the CECA Elevating Devices scholarships in honor of past member the late Walter Guderian. Guderian began his career apprenticing with an elevator company in Germany, eventually bringing that expertise to Canada, where he founded Delta Elevator in 1967. Guderian’s contributions to the elevator industry were profound and far-reaching. He served on the CECA BoD in multiple capacities, including as Central Region chair, president and past-president. Guderian was a strong supporter of education, particularly college apprenticeship programs. In recognition of his enduring impact, Guderian was named a CECA honorary member in 2017 and was also a corporate sponsor of the CECA Convention that same year. There are potentially four CAD2,500 (US$1,829) scholarships to be awarded this year, including the Walter Guderian Memorial Scholarship for the pursuit of a career in the elevator industry. The deadline to apply is June 26.
