Champion Elevator Corp. announced it has kicked off phase two of its US$6-million-plus modernization of the garage elevators at Co-op City in Bronx, NY. Champion’s Don Gelestino, Frank Feniello and Robert Masterson are leading the ambitious project, which involves full-service maintenance for 180 elevators and modernization of 16 passenger cars. The Champion team is collaborating with suppliers Vantage and Hollister-Whitney, and the elevators’ appearance will get a boost from new stainless-steel cabs and entrances from United Vertical Group. The project is expected to take approximately 22 weeks. “These essential elevators, crucial for daily operations within Co-op City, will undergo a comprehensive transformation to enhance efficiency, safety and reliability,” Champion stated. With a classification of overhead gearless roped 1:1 and a capacity of 2000 lb, these elevators will become “paragons of modern engineering and design.”
