Company in Old Otis Factory Plans To Expand

Phoenix Closures, Inc., an Illinois-based plastic lid and cap manufacturer also known as Phoenix Packaging, wants to invest more than US$20 million in new production lines and equipment at the former site of the Otis Elevator Co. factory on Bloomington, Indiana’s west side, Indiana Public Media reports. The expansion is expected to bring an estimated 21 new jobs, paying somewhere between US$22 to US$26 per hour not including benefits, to the area. Phoenix currently has eight production lines at the Bloomington facility and hopes to add another four. It employs about 68 full-time workers at the facility. The Monroe County Council has expressed unanimous support for the proposal. Phoenix moved into the former Otis Elevator factory at 1425 South Curry Pike in 2017.
