DL Construction, a leading construction company in Korea, obtained a green technology certification from the Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises and Startups in April, ChosunBiz reports. The certification recognizes the excellence of the “corrosion-resistant elevator pit construction technology” developed with Lotte Engineering & Construction, Doosan and Jaytech E&C. DL Construction found that constructing elevator pits with a steel structure using corrosion-resistant plates, side seals and multi-purpose plates instead of the existing cast-in-place concrete method reduced the excavation depth and decreased the amount of reinforced concrete used for the foundation. The company found that the amount of steel used can be reduced by approximately 72% compared to existing technology, and the amount of concrete used can be reduced by about 84%, significantly conserving material usage. The result of the construction technology is an 80% decrease in greenhouse gas emissions.
