Elevator Completed at Child Care Center in NY
Local officials, representatives of organizations and nonprofits and members of the Utica, NY community gathered on April 7 to celebrate the completion of the elevator at the DeSales Center, the Daily Sentinel reported. The ribbon-cutting ceremony welcomed a new level of accessibility to the center, built in 1931 and offering two childcare programs, Academics First and the Thea Bowman House. Before the new elevator project was completed, the facility had only a chairlift that provided access to a limited part of the first floor. Executive Director of the Thea Bowman House Jane Domingue said, “A lot of people have come to look for space on our third floor; it’s beautiful up there, incredible lighting up there, too. A lot of people take a look at the space and then they say, ‘Call us when you get an elevator.’ So, we’re hoping that it’s going to expand the capacity of the building.”
