Elevator for Revelstoke, Canada, Museum Has Strong Support
An elevator to provide accessibility at the two-story Revelstoke Museum & Archives building in Revelstoke, a small town in interior British Columbia, Canada, known for its small-town charm and skiing, has strong support from the local and national community, with CAD661,738 (US$491,804) raised so far, the Revelstoke Review reports. The museum held a fundraising silent auction on February 3, and it continues online. The initiative has received several notable donations, such as CAD400,000 (US$297,251) from the Columbia Shuswap Regional District via the Canada Community Housing Fund and CAD90,000 (US$66,881) each from the Community Spaces Fund via Canada Heritage and the Columbia Basin Trust Community Development Program. Museum Curator Cathy English said several longtime patrons who once previously attended regularly are unable to do so now because of mobility issues. “It’s not appropriate to have a building that creates barriers for people to participate,” she said.
