Elevator Rescues On Vancouver Island Due To Extreme Weather

First responders on southern Vancouver Island, Canada, dealt with at least six elevator rescues on November 15 amid flooding, wind, fires and power outages, Saanich News reports. Langford Fire/Rescue Chief Chris Aubrey told the source his crews responded to at least 24 calls that day, including four elevator rescues in the afternoon. There were also elevator rescue calls in the cities of View Royal and Colwood. Approximately 50,000 southern Vancouver Island residents were without power, and downed wires and trees, as well as traffic lights not working, made it challenging for emergency vehicles to make it to and from their destinations.
