Elevator Safety Regulations Out for Review in Southwestern China

A draft of the Sichuan Province Elevator Safety Regulations was submitted for review on July 28 at a meeting of the Standing Committee of the People’s Congress in the southwestern Chinese province, Futu News reports. The regulations propose that carrying bicycles and electric motorcycles — as well as their batteries — be prohibited in elevators. They also propose that dogs only be allowed on elevators if proper safety measures (a tight leash, a muzzle or a pet carrier) are implemented. Sichuan Province also aims to improve its elevator emergency response service platform by establishing a dedicated assistance phone number that would direct local response departments to immediately carry out a rescue after receiving a call for assistance.
