Work on the Agra Metro Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS), including installation of lifts and escalators at stations, is underway in Agra in north India’s Uttar Pradesh state, The Hans India reports. Serving Agra in Uttar Pradesh, the MRTS will have two corridors spanning nearly 30 km with 27 stations. Its priority corridor — a 7-km section with six stations (three underground and three elevated) between Jama Masjid and Taj East Gate — is undergoing civil construction work. The Uttar Pradesh government, said the source, “is sparing no efforts to provide an international class metro line before the 2024 deadline” that coincides with Parliament of India elections. Taj East Gate was the first station to have escalators installed, and work was poised to commence on elevators there and at the Basai station. Each priority corridor station will be outfitted with four lifts and three energy-efficient escalators.
