Excavation is in full swing at 750 Eighth Avenue on the border of Times Square and Hell’s Kitchen in NYC to make way for a striking, 1,067-ft-tall, 52-story supertall hotel and observation tower, New York YIMBY reports. A schematic diagram posted on the jobsite shows “a highly idiosyncratic design with a stem-like protrusion capped with a slanted crown.” To offer 825 hotel rooms, retail, a restaurant and an observatory with a drop ride, the tower was designed by ODA with SLCE Architects as the architect of record and is being developed by Extell. According to the source, the drop ride will consist of three enclosed 260-ft tracks within the northern, southern and western sides of the building’s stem. “Each vehicle will carry up to four passengers on multiple lifts and free fall drops over a 90-s experience,” YIMBY observes. Completion is anticipated in the second quarter of 2027.
