The Global Technical Advisory Group (G-TAG) to support the World Elevator and Escalator Federation (WEEF) formed and met during a kickoff meeting on June 9, the European Lift Association (ELA) reports. G-TAG seeks to identify global technical safety priorities in line with the objectives of the WEEF, formed in April 2019 with the signing of the Langfang Protocol in China. With the ambitious goal of “acting beyond mere exchanges between associations by progressively acting in a more structured form,” the WEEF is made up of 11 associations representing Europe, the Asia-Pacific, North and South America. These entities, along with, at the time, Russia, committed to achieve technical barrier-free trade globally on the basis of International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standards. The objective is to promote and improve safety and facilitate technological innovation and the free movement of goods worldwide. G-TAG includes ELA Chair Roberto Zappa and ELA attorney Markus Wellinger, along with 10 additional members. The kickoff meeting included discussion about global adoption of ISO 1800-1/2 and its future amendments. A followup meeting is planned in Shanghai in November during the World Elevator & Escalator expo.
