Georgia to Hire Six New Elevator Inspectors to Manage Atlanta Elevators

The Georgia Office of Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner, the department responsible for public safety issues such as elevator inspections, will be hiring six new inspectors in July, WSB-TV reports. According to a spokesman, the new hires are possible due to the department moving US$4 million “from one line item to their staffing.” In 2024, the office said there were approximately 32,000 elevators in Georgia, 11,520 of which were out of date on their inspections. Of the 32,000 elevators, 20,000 are in the metro Atlanta area, while only 15 of the 32 state elevator inspectors are assigned to the Atlanta area. The openings will be available to the public on July 1, and all six will be based in the metro Atlanta area.
