Ground Broken in Singapore for Marina Bay Sands Expansion
Las Vegas Sands broke ground on July 15 on a US$8-billion expansion of the iconic Marina Bay Sands (MBS) resort in Singapore that opened in 2010 with an energy-efficient vertical-transportation system by KONE, Channel News Asia is among outlets to report. First announced in 2019 and slated for completion in June 2030, the expansion will add a 55-story, 570-suite hotel tower to the original MBS that features a trio of cascading towers crowned by the connected Sands Skypark. The new tower will have its own multi-story rooftop experience called Skyloop, spanning 76,000 ft2 and boasting 360˚ views. In addition to the larger-than-usual hotel suites, the expansion includes additional luxury retail boutiques, high-end restaurants, wellness offerings, gaming areas, 200,000 ft2 of meeting space and a 15,000-seat entertainment area. Drawing approximately 200 guests, the ceremony was officiated by Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, who said MBS has become “a symbol of the Singapore story” that represents a thriving financial and business hub and destination.
