As of early March, the Electrical Safety Department of Ghaziabad, India, had issued notices to at least 50 high-rise societies in the trans-Hindon area, Crossings Republik and Raj Nagar Extension to get their lifts registered under the Uttar Pradesh (UP) Lift Act, The Times of India reports. The deadline to register is March 25, but only a few lifts at malls and industrial sites in Ghaziabad have registered their lifts, according to officials. There are more than 200 high-rise societies in the area, and none have registered lifts, according to officials. The UP Lift Act was passed by the state legislature in February 2024 to regulate the installation, maintenance and safe operation of lifts and escalators across the state, especially Noida. On October 29, the Noida administration made it mandatory for building owners and Resident Welfare Associations to register all lifts on society premises within six months of September 25.
