Houston Senior Apartment Complex Suffering Elevator Breakdowns
Senior residents of Magnolia Place apartment complex in Houston, Texas, are asking for an elevator repair solution after spending more than a week without working elevators, KHOU 11 reports. During the week of April 28, residents reported that all elevators had stopped working, preventing those who rely on elevators to traverse the building from doing so. The manufacturer of the elevators in the building said the issues were likely caused by damage from recent lightning strikes. In an emailed statement, the company wrote, “Our team has already provided a comprehensive proposal to the building owner to repair the damaged equipment and restore elevator service as quickly as possible. Once authorized by the owner to proceed, we will work diligently to expedite the necessary repairs.” This comes as State Senator Carol Alvarado introduced a bill aimed at holding landlords accountable for timely repairs of elevators, ramps and handrails in senior living facilities.
