Western Railway’s (WR) Mumbai Division in India commissioned five vertical-transportation (VT) units — three lifts and two escalators — in July, The Free Press Journal reports. The new units bring the total to 98 escalators and 47 elevators since WR began an effort to improve station accessibility. This fiscal year, through March 2023, WR plans to complete 18 escalators and 12 lifts. Of the three elevators commissioned in July, two are at the Vasai Road station and one at the Dahanu Road station. The two new escalators are at the Andheri and Vasai Road stations.
