Izmir Metropolitan Municipality in Türkiye has established a special 38-person team to maintain and repair 170 vertical-transportation (VT) units — 57 elevators and 113 escalators — on 127 overpasses throughout the city, Railly News reports. Izmir Mayor Cemil Tugay formed the team under the coordination of the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Construction Affairs Department. Affiliated with and certified by İZELMAN A.Ş., the personnel will provide service in seven shifts on a 24/7 basis. A department official said elevators and escalators on overpasses are currently 92% functional, adding that vandalism and theft are the main causes of service disruption. “With the team we’ve established, we can intervene in malfunctions instantly and solve problems in a short time,” he said.
